DESCRIPTION OF EMPLOYER: Founded in 1901, Feeser’s, Inc. is a family owned and operated full-line foodservice distributor located in Harrisburg, PA servicing the Mid-Atlantic region. Feeser’s provides an expansive offering of dry, refrigerated, and frozen products to a diverse customer base comprised of restaurants, healthcare facilities, educational facilities, and other institutions. SUMMARY: The Accounting Manager is responsible for the company’s daily accounting operations, as well as overseeing the accounts payable department, the processing of rebates, and the reconciliation of bank accounts. A key focus for the Accounting Manager is the accounting of inventory, tax compliance, and working with the controller and CFO on preparing formal recurring financial reports. The accounting manager must have solid communication, technology, and management skills.
OBJECTIVES OF THE ACCOUNTING MANAGER ROLE - Keeping financial data organized and current to prepare financial reports that are timely and accurate through proper planning, directing, and coordination of all accounting operational functions
- Hiring, training, and oversight of the departments and functions that are directly managed
- Ensuring all applicable regulations are followed
- Overseeing and completing all local, state, and federal government reports and tax filings in a timely manner
- ACCOUNTING MANAGER ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage and monitor all accounts and ledgers ensuring compliance with appropriate U.S. GAAP standards
- Supervise general accounting operations, taking ownership of accounting accuracy, reporting and process oversight
- Ownership of key areas including Cash, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, Inventory, Prepaids, Accounts Payable, Sales, COGS, Rebates, and Operating Expenses
- Record monthly journal entry financial transactions, ensuring they have proper support/documentation to substantiate the entry
- Reconcile account balances and bank statements as part of overall support of the treasury management process
- Lead month-end close procedures ensuring accuracy, completeness, and effectiveness in all accounting tasks while continually identifying ways to optimize the close cycle
- Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with cross-functional departments such as Sales, Warehouse, Transportation, Purchasing and FP&A
- Maintain internal control safeguards for the receipt of revenue and disbursements
- Monitor and identify issues at the item level related to sales profitability, pricing, and rebates and properly report these issues to appropriate department leaders
- Support the FP&A department in the analysis of monthly results, financial reports, data analytics, investigation, and explanation of performance
- Hiring and training accounting team members while developing and supervising department tasks with the enforcement of internal controls in order to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflows
SKILLS REQUIRED: - Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel including advanced proficiency in Excel, including the use of pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros, and data analysis tools
- Knowledgeable of GAAP and other relevant accounting standards and regulations
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to present financial data clearly and concisely
- Detail-oriented, organized, and accurate in preparing and reviewing financial reports and statements
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
- Experience in food distribution or related industry preferred
- Familiarity with inventory management, cost accounting, and logistics best practices
- Ability to adapt to changing business needs and priorities
- Ethical, professional, and committed to maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
ACCOUNTING MANAGER QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: - Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
- Four to six years of experience in accounting or financial auditing.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation highly preferred.
- Experience with large-scale Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system(s) required; preference given to experience utilizing Oracle.
- Intermediate level expertise in Microsoft Excel required.
- Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift equipment up to 20 pounds.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
